Recent Earthquake Near Orissa, India 2014

- An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale shook the region of
Bay of Bengal on Wednesday night , said officials of the earthquake
monitoring network in India. The epicenter was 10 km below sea level, but no tsunami alert , officials tsunami warning center in India in Hyderabad said.
The quake occurred at 9:51 pm, about 275 km south east of Paradip port in Odisha.Tremors were felt across India in Delhi- NCR , Chennai , Kolkata and Odisha . In Delhi , many residents said the aftershocks lasted 40 seconds.The region is prone to earthquakes , so it is puzzling why seismologists as an earthquake has struck near the east coast of India.In the past , earthquakes have occurred mostly in the region around the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, that are prone to earthquakes. It will take several weeks to figure out why an earthquake so close to the coast of India .
